Changing the Guard

The formal handover of the King's Guard at Buckingham Palace, in which the Old Guard is relieved by the New Guard arriving from Wellington Barracks with a band. Dates vary and are published by the Household Division.

Organised by The Household Division (British Army) (their website, opens in a new tab)

This isn't a Great British PAC event — we've listed it because we think our supporters will be interested. For tickets, times or questions, please contact the organiser.

When it runs: Dates vary: the Household Division publishes the schedule month by month at https://www.householddivision.org.uk/changing-the-guard-calendar (as at 14 Sep 2026 only September 2026 is listed). The schedule header gives King's Guard changes at Buckingham Palace on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and Windsor Castle Guard changes on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, at 11am, but not every such day is listed. The 'How to Watch' page says the ceremony in front of Buckingham Palace is at 10:45 and lasts about 45 minutes, with soldiers gathering at St James's Palace and Wellington Barracks from 10:00. On days without a change there is a Captain's Inspection at 15:00, and on Sundays a Sunday Parade at 10:00. It can be altered or cancelled at very short notice, especially in wet weather, as late as 10:45 on the day.
